Billy Graham NYC Reflections

Feb.03.08

First of all, let me start off by saying God really humbles you, there I was at a huge Christian event holding a sign telling people where to go. That is something I would not do for anybody or even for money, but because of how God changed my life and the things he has done for me I would do anything that would bring glory to his name.

My experience at the Billy Graham Crusade is one I will never forget.

There was a bit of mixed emotions for me, I was happy and I was angry. My joy was seeing so many people come out from all over the country. This just proves that people are wanting to know more about God and who He is. My anger was simply this, "Why don't people listen" and I am not talking about people who came to hear about God, I am talking about the workers who wanted to do things their own way.

A couple of weeks before the crusade I was reading the bible an I was stuck on Matthew 7:21-23

21 Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me ye that work iniquity.
— Jesus

I was asking God "what do you mean by this?" little did I know I was going to see it with my eyes. The days of the crusade I was assigned to crowd control, and there were people who could not follow simple instructions. I am in no place to judge anyone only God can because he sees the heart. My take on this is if you are doing something for God you do it with all your heart. People that were asked to follow simple instructions refused to do it, and even argued about doing it. If I was in charge I would not have let them serve.

As a Christian you are supposed to be humble, there is an order in which things were to be carried out. God is not a God of confusion, if they just let people do whatever they thought was right could you imagine the confusion there would have been?

My dear friends, I beg of you, if you are doing something for God could you please humble yourself and follow instructions and do it with a willing heart, if you cannot do that could you please not get involved?

What would people say who are on the outside looking to find God, even better, what would God say looking at what we do?

This is a rule I choose to obey and it is found in Matthew 7:12:

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them for this is the law and the prophets.
— Jesus

The highlight of the crusade for me after standing in the hot sun for three days , was when a guy came up to me and said thank you I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. It was worth it.
